Sketching Skilly

As mentioned in the previous post a group of artists visited Skilly Hills as part of the Bungaree Artists Residency. Twenty artists attended the residency and they had the good fortune to have Jo Bertini as their mentor. Jo has earned an international reputation as a painter and teacher. Most of the attendees were experienced artists, including art teachers, professional artists and gallery owners. So they were not after technical instruction but rather were seeking guidance from Jo, to enjoy a new environment and especially to socialize with other artists for a week. After lunch and before the artists set off for an afternoon of work Jo suggested that they focus on sketching and painting quickly, as if they were taking notes. That way, they would quickly capture initial impressions and create a reference to return to later.

Here are a few more photos of the artists at work and the area they were working in.
